ASEAN-China Joint Project on Empowering Law Enforcement Against Illegal Online Gambling: Unravelling the Underground Online Gambling Across Southeast Asia and China

ASEAN and China have successfully completed the first phase of a joint project to combat illegal online gambling through a workshop titled “Unravelling the Underground Online Gambling Across Southeast Asia and China”, held on 25-26 September 2025 in Nha Trang, Viet Nam, supported by ASEAN-China Cooperation Fund (ACCF). A total of 58 people attended the workshop, consisting of regional law enforcement officials from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste, as well as experts from China’s Ministry of Public Security, ASEANAPOL, and UNODC.
The initiative focuses on strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in ASEAN member states and China to combat illegal online gambling, by establishing an information-sharing platform, as well as enhancing the knowledge and skills of officers.
This milestone is in line with the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030, which strengthen joint efforts to curb transnational organized crime and safeguard regional peace and security. The opening ceremony was delivered by Viet Nam and China, while closing ceremony delivered by Viet Nam.
