Eighteen (18) technical officers from 9 countries were trained on pathogen detection, diagnosis, and treatment of sugarcane diseases and insect pests.

Brief History of Project

• With the confirmation of the movement of sugarcane planting materials in and out of the country, the protocol is of importance for the ASEAN member countries and China to prevent the entry or further spread of economically important diseases of sugarcane in the region. However, some countries lack the necessary laboratory equipment, post-entry facility and site, and having difficulty in the procurement the needed chemicals to conduct the required analyses therefore, the Philippines recommends for the establishment and capacity building of laboratories in those countries
