Brief History of Project
The ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030 encourages people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN and China, including through youth exchanges in language programmes, cultural and artistic activities, with a view to deepening mutual understanding and friendship among the young generations.
With joint efforts of all parties, especially with close cooperation among the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN and the Mission of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to ASEAN, the first ASEAN-China Short Video Contest under the theme of Friendship and Cooperation held in 2020 was a big success. Over 36,000 entries were received, with over 270 million views made on social media, speaking volumes of its great popularity. The first contest was subsidized by the Chinese side.
As the year 2021 marks the 30thanniversaryof ASEAN-China dialogue relations and is highly expected to usher the relations to a higher level, the Mission of the PRC to ASEAN proposes to hold the Second ASEAN-China Short Video Contest on the theme of Friendship and Cooperation, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN, the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, and China Public Diplomacy Association. The entries would focus on but are not limited to ASEAN-China people-to-people exchanges, cultural communication, practical cooperation, and the joint fight against COVID-19. The Contest will broaden the new path it has blazed for the public to tell the unique stories of friendship and cooperation between China and ASEAN. It is open to the public, especially the young people, from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China
Project's Achievements / Outcomes
The Year of 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations. Since the contest was launched on 17 May, 2021, a total of 15,686 entries have been received from China and 10 ASEAN countries, with 44.405 million views and 15.713 million discussions on weibo, Kuaishou, Facebook?YouTube and other new media platforms.
The submission of more than 15,000 video entries from the ten ASEAN Member States and China against the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the great enthusiasm of our young people in ASEAN and China to participate in the contest and share meaningful stories of friendship and cooperation between ASEAN and China.
It should be mentioned that there has been a sharp rise in the number of video entries from ASEAN countries. A total of 7,000 entries were made and submitted by ASEAN participants. That is more than double of what we had last year, accounting for half of all the entries received this year. This is an important signal that we cannot miss. It means the Contest has been gaining more popularity among the public in ASEAN Member States, and it has been more effective and productive in drawing our peoples closer to each other.
