Brief History of the Project:
ASEAN nations have been working together in last decade at both policy and farm levels to harmonize aquaculture practices and certification schemes, and facilitate regional aquaculture trade. With ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) coming into effect, the producers and markets are experiencing a slow but steady unifying process. Advances in farming technology, farmers’ innovation, research and development and increasing interest in investment by both private and public sectors will continue to fuel the growth. The focus will be on sustainability of farming and the whole sector in respect to environmental integrity, resource use efficiency and social responsibility, and in line with the goal of blue growth “to achieve a balance between healthy aquatic ecosystems and sustainable growth in production. 
Project’s objectives:

Based on the aquaculture development in ASEAN countries, through workshop preparation, group seminars, study tours and group report, this workshop on aquaculture will focus on:
(1) To analyze and learn from each other between China and ASEAN nations and among ASEAN nations the innovative sustainable aquaculture practices that contribute to regional blue growth;
(2) To recommend options for sustainable aquaculture farming systems with potential of intensification and develop intervention strategies and actions;
(3) To build a communication and experience exchange platform for information dissemination and future collaboration.
Project’s achievements / Outcomes:
• Greatly improve techniques and management of 24 participants in the innovative sustainable aquaculture;
• Report on recommended options for sustainable aquaculture farming systems with potential of intensification and develop intervention;
• Highly promote the communication and experience exchange in the innovative sustainable aquaculture in future among ASEAN countries;
• Building a communication and experience exchange platform for information dissemination and future collaboration.
